SelfLube, long known for the tough reliable bushings it makes for Automotive Tooling, has developed a revolutionary Split Ski Lift Bushing. It is expected to last five years in normal service. The rationale for it is simple. Ski lift bushings need to be periodically replaced. A bushing with double the life will cut replacement expenses in half. And, anything that cuts expenses in half is definitely worth a look.
The Problem
Traditional split bushings are mainly steel with a thin liner of PFTE. The PFTE is slippery enough but it’s also soft. So if there is any roughness on the steel shafts and journals that the bushing rides on, such as rust accumulating in the off season, the sharp edges can quickly wear through the soft PFTE liner.
When that happens you have no bushing. You are left with steel rubbing on steel, a bad combination, which will eventually damage the journals and shafts that the bushing was supposed to be protecting.
To prevent this you are forced to replace bushings more frequently, which means paying more for maintaince.
Also, the bushing liners wear, particles of PFTE are introduced into the environment.
The Solution
SelfLube's revolutionary Split Bushings neatly solves both of these problems. They are made of solid C954, a premium bushing material with a high resistance to galling and wear. This makes for a long service life and a significant reduction in bushing replacement expense.
C954 is 100% recyclable. That together with a long service life and no PFTE, makes for a big boost in sustainability.
How it Works
Machinists hate the C954. They say that it is “gummy”, because it tends to pull and stretch and snap back rather than cleanly cut. This action also quickly dulls cutting tools.
But what’s bad for machining is the very thing that makes C954 such an excellent bushing material.
When one of our bushings encounters a sharp edge, such as rust accumulating in the off season, an interesting thing happens. The sharp edges are like little cutting tools. The C954 responds by stretching and snapping back with little or no damage. It also dulls the sharp edges and over time burnishes the rough spot smooth.
This means that our Split Bushings have a built-in self-correcting feature that directly addresses a known problem. Something like this is an extraordinary situation that one rarely sees. It’s a real opportunity.
This is in direct contrast with a PFTE lined bushing. When a rough spot is encountered with this type of bushing, there is no self-correction. It’s more like self-destruction.
Upgrade to SelfLube’s new Split Bushing
Cut your bushing replacement expenses in half and eliminate the PFTE. It will be a good move - good for your bottom line and good for the environment.
